2020 Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower

Post by Christopher K. »

According to the American Meteor Society, the Lyrid Meteor Shower will continue to be active for a long stretch, until 24 May. Keep in mind, "the morning" means before sunrise while it is still completely dark. Since silly and useless Daylight Time is in effect, this mean each of these morning the best chance of catching meteor streaks will be from 3:15am to 4:45am. Also, due to worthless and money-wasting light pollution one should look only from 3 May to 8 May.

Binoculars are not needed. A meteor hunter should only use eyes, in order to see as much of the sky as possible at one time.

Considering the predicted rise in the relative humidity, the best time to search for eta Aquarids tonight is probably 11:30pm to 1am. Face the northeast, to have the Moon at your back.
