2019 DSSG & Labor Day Weekend @ White Horse

As many know, the next iteration of the Deep South Star Gaze (# 37) will be held beginning October 22nd, a Tuesday, and running until Sunday, October 27th. This will be our second fall event at the White Horse Retreat Center. We are due for at least several good days and nights under the stars.

However some people cannot wait so we have scheduled an additional opportunity to get in some observing at White Horse. Those dates will be from Friday, August 30th to Monday, September 2nd. Basically 3 nights available to us - Friday thru Sunday, but if your schedule permits and the weather is favorable you can come a day early and stay a day late (new moon is Friday morning, 8-30-19).

What is required up front? One night's bunk fee - $35.00. For your $35.00 you will get a bunk - remember to bring your own bedding and bathroom needs. Each bunkhouse has heat and a/c.

Let me know what night you think you will be there. One night is non-refundable. If you come early (a day or two early) that is ok. You can pay for extra nights as you go. If you come late (like for Saturday night instead of Friday) that is ok too, we will hold your bunk for you.

What if I decide to come but have not paid up front? Try calling me to see if space is available, it probably will be. Just come on up. Disadvantage - your bunk may not be optimally located. Advantage - if you decide not to come you do not lose anything.

What do I get besides a bunk? Potentially the darkest skies at a site that includes ammenities within 200 miles of New Orleans (Bortle 3 skies and low horizons)

What about meals? The Country Diner is 4 miles away for a good breakfast and/or lunch and White Horse can do a snack bar at night (8ish) for burgers, hot dogs, etc. There are other restaurants in the area with several in Columbia which is approximately 12 miles away.

If I want to pay in advance, who do I make payment out to? You can make your check out to "White Horse Christian Retreat Camp" and send it to me. I will hold it and bring it to White Horse for the event. You can also make it out to me, Barry Simon, and I will do the same. Please specify what night you are staying over. You can pay additional funds due on site if you plan on staying longer. Other payments can be made on site if you plan to tent camp or if you are coming in a camper or rv. See those fees are as follows: RV or camper - $35 per night, no limit on # per rv, Tent - $15 per night per adult or couple (spouse welcome), Day Use/No Overnite - $10 per person
