The Virgo Cluster

For sheer size and grandeur, not too many other natural creations rival the Virgo Cluster--except of course the Local Supercluster to which it belongs. The Virgo Cluster is the nearest large grouping of galaxies, and it claims as its famous citizens M60, M88, M89, M99 and M100.

M88 is the same shape (spiral) and about the same diameter as our own Milky Way. A great image from Mt. Lemmon shows dust lanes, young blue clusters and star-forming regions.
