The fourth moon is thirteen to thirty-four kilometers across. Mark Showalter at the SETI Institute was in charge of the observing team. The work was being done as a direct support to the New Horizons program.
Scientists believe the fifth moon is irregularly shaped and ten to twenty-four kilometers across. A theory proposes all of the moons result from a collision Pluto once had with another KBO.
