Independence Day

Post by Christopher K. »

On 4 July (as we celebrate it anyway) the put-upon Colonies along the northeast coast of North America formalize their Declaration of separation from the British Crown. Several launches and arrivals in NASA exploration history were timed to coincide with 4 July.

Beginning on 19 June, the Highland Road Park Observatory will periodically fly the American Flag in anticipation of the nation's upcoming birthday--Independence Day, Saturday 4 July. Some events during that evening and night...
*From 8:35pm CDT to 10:48pm CDT, eight rocket bodies and satellites will pass through the local sky with magnitudes of 2.5 down to 1.6.
*From 9:25pm CDT to 9:51pm CDT, five Starlinks will pass through the local sky with magnitudes 2.9 down to 2.3.
For the two sets of events above, go to Heavens Above to generate information specific to your location.
*A Partial Penumbral Lunar Eclipse will take place. The Full Moon enters the Earth's penumbral shadow at 10:07pm, and exits at 12:52am. (The Moon is Full at 11:46pm exactly.)
