BRAS President Merrill Hess notes in the current Night Visions that DSRSG coordinator Barry Simon is considering renaming the Deep South Regional Stargaze to simply the Deep South Stargaze (DSSG). I suppose that change the name won't hurt. If it's getting bigger, perhaps "Regional" should be dropped.

It doesn't look like Mother Nature will smile on those skygazers ensconced at the Feliciana Retreat Center tonight. Here is the current NOAA forecast for 9pm at Norwood...
precipitation potential, 49%
sky cover, 93%
relative humidity, 90%
temperature, 16˚C
surface wind, NE 16 km/h

Is the DSSG user group on Yahoo using a new name?
The links I have found result in
"Group not found" on Yahoo.

I never joined the group, but the BRAS meeting is tonight. I know there will be a couple of members there who've used the group; I'll ask.

At one time there were a few complaints (at least in BRAS) that those who were interested in learning about a "public" star party had to register for a Yahoo account. I don't know if that precipitated a change or not.

Chris,
Subsequent to our discussion yesterday, I searched Yahoo user groups
(I already had a Yahoo account) and found nothing related to DSSG.
Astronomical League site lists the event including dates, but the group is doing a good job
of hiding any further information. Thanks for your help, I think I'll assume they're not interested
in advertising for new blood.

Oh.... It could be (see I'm stressing "could") that a new internet group is created for every annual event. It sounds ridiculous but it's all I can figure.

This year's DSRSG is 25 October to 30 October. By at least August BRAS officers should have copies of the registration and waiver forms; just come to the August meeting and grab one. That will bypass any need for the Yahoo group.

The Lodge is now full for the 2016 Deep South Star Gaze

Post by bsimon615 »

The lodge is now full for our upcoming Deep South Star Gaze as of 10-5-16. Here is a list of our 55 registrants to date. I still have plenty of cottage space available. (Bunkhouse style - nice rooms but you will be sharing the room and you have to bring your own bed linens, sleeping bag, towels, etc.)

I have two registrations that I received today for people who wanted a lodge room. One wants to be wait listed in the hope that someone cancels.

If you have mailed your registration but do not see your name on the list below, I have not received it yet. If you requested a lodge room I will be contacting you to discuss your options.

Barry, I've said it before and I'll say it again...I really don't think posting first and last names is necessary for a Forum visible to all who are browsing. A more discreet last initial may be appreciated by a good portion of the participants.

Sorry, but I don't recall you ever telling me that, nor has any of our registrants ever complained about the way we notify the group (and verify to them that their registration has been received).

However I will discontinue posting these lists to the Baton Rouge website. Anyone interested in seeing if their registration has been received or seeing who is attending can check this on the Deep South Star Gaze Yahoo Group.
