I was in Nicholson Hall today and saw a flyer requesting photo submissions to Acadiana Dark Sky. The group is accepting both astrophotography and astro-works, such as drawings, paintings, CG renderings, etc. The President and Founder, Kerry, was kind enough to send me more details.

*The work must show something in the night sky or a Louisiana landscape.
*The photographs must be taken somewhere in Louisiana.
*The images must be submitted by the photographer or artist.

Images should be submitted as an attachment to Information needed includes artist's name, subject of the image, date and location, exposure time. One should also include the size of lens or mirror, if a telescope or telephoto lens was used. Selected submissions will at one point be published on ADS's website. There is no deadline.

Sometimes, contests like these will have entry possibilities for different age groups. Young people should definitely contact the contest coordinator in question to see if qualifications allow youth.

HRPO Program Aide Judah Santiago will revisit his "Astrophotography for Youth" talk that he gave in September, with new material and new suggestions. This talk will be at HRPO, Friday 7 February at 7:30pm. There is no admission fee and it is aimed at ages eleven to twenty.
