Taking Milky Way shots this Friday night

Post by davidgbayard »

Looking to take my first Milky Way shots this weekend... any good spots with no light pollution around BR? Thinking about driving to Ramah and then heading south to get the atchafalaya darkness, or up near Batchelor... any good spots?

Your best bet is to compare the Clear Dark Sky maps for south Louisiana..

...with those locations you know you can visit legally.

Please keep in mind, one cannot flee light pollution. Light pollution, like crime, follows where people go. If we do not eradicate it from near our homes, before long we will be journeying ten hours instead of two to find dark skies.

I can advise about dark locations in La. I've looked into them extensively and can provide details about the Kisatchie District of the National Forest. Send me an email...pselaphid@gmail.com.
