Pixinsight software

Post by Poppa-Chris » October 4th, 2013, 7:52 pm

Does anybody here have any experience with Pixinsight image processing software? I stumbled across a couple of Youtube video tutorials on it and have become VERY intrigued by it. But before I make any sort of committment to a new software package I was hoping to find someone to talk with about it.

I'm giving Pixinsight a test drive. Downloaded the 45day trial last night. Looks pretty impressive. A little hard to get used to after so much Photoshop time under my belt, but seems to be very powerful at dealing with things like gradients, etc. My test subject is a M65/M66 set of images I took back in April. So far so good. Taking it one step at a time in the workflow while following a set of video tutorials. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to finish up tonight.

Progress report...

Luminance only (no color channels) first histogram stretch after working on the gradients in Pixinsight. Compare this with the Before Image above:

Still a work in progress but getting there.

Well here is the result of my first attempt at PixInsight. I think it has a lot of advantages. I have made up my mind and intend to purchase.

Well... After a year of playing with PixInsight (and climbing its very steep learning curve) This is where I stand as a level of expertise.

M33 - The Triangulum Pinwheel Galaxy.

ALL processing from calibrating and stacking the original DSLR RAW files - Lights, Darks, Flats, Bias to strectching, sharpening and color corrections was done solely in PixInsight.

I consider myself now at an "intermediate" level. Still a lot of learning and practice ahead. :geek:

This is the first time heard of the software, seems to be a powerful one.
