Tonight is the Great Martian Opposition; HRPO will be open from 6:30pm to 12:30am. Below is the NOAA forecast for that time span...
precipitation potential, 7%
sky cover, 15%
relative humidity, 67%
temperature, 29˚C
heat index, 32˚C
surface wind, S 5 km/h


Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "average" (3 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "good" (4 out of 5).

There are a number of viewing observations and activities HRPO personnel has planned for visting patrons--and Mario Lozanov's wonderful City Gelato will be available. However Mars will be visible only after 9:30pm. Additionally, Mars will be viewed through the large 20OGS telescope only from 10pm to midnight (the operator will be BRAS Outreach Chairman Ben Toman).

NOAA has issued an Air Quality Alert for the HRPO area until midnight. It reads in part...
"The Air Quality Index indicates that ozone will be at the Orange level...which is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Increasing ozone
levels may cause unhealthy air quality during afternoon hours. Active children and adults...the elderly and people with respiratory
diseases such as asthma...should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion."

Here are the predicted visible passes...
*USA 186, mag 2.3 beginning at 9:04pm
*Tiangong 2, mag 1.4 beginning at 9:17pm
*Cosmos 2297 rocket, mag 2.1 beginning at 9:25pm
*Cosmos 2098 rocket, mag 2.0 beginning at 9:29pm
*Cosmos 1825, mag 2.2 beginning at 9:38pm
*Cosmos 2227 rocket, mag 2.5 beginning at 9:40pm
HRPO will close at 12:30am.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "too cloudy to forecast" (0 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "good" (4 out of 5). This evening's 20OGS operator was to be BRAS member Peter Lazar. However, there will be no viewing and HRPO will close at 8:30pm. If it begins to rain anytime after 7:30pm, HRPO will close at 10pm.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "below average" (2 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "good" (4 out of 5). This evening's 20OGS operator is BREC Center Supervisor Jordan Cobbs. The 20OGS will be used, though the dropout will not be lowered. HRPO will close at 9:45pm. If it begins to rain anytime after 8:30pm, HRPO will close immediately.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "poor" (1 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "good" (4 out of 5). This evening's 20OGS operator was to be BRAS Treasurer. However, the 20OGS will remain closed and viewing will be attempted with portable equipment on the front pad. The campfire is canceled, though the physical science demonstrations will still take place. HRPO will close at 9:30pm; if it begins to rain anytime after 7:30pm, HRPO will close immediately.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "below average" (2 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "good" (4 out of 5). Portable telescopes will show views of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn at various times from 10pm to midnight. We will also attempt to obtain Neptune during that time. There will be no telescope viewing after midnight.

There is one predicted visible pass...
*H-IIA 202 rocket body, mag 2.0 beginning at 10:10pm

All rules and regulations must be followed to stay on site. HRPO will close at 2am.

The 12 August 2018 rating is...
