Below is the NOAA forecast for HRPO's viewing time of 7:30pm to 10pm...
precipitation potential, 5%

surface wind, N 4 km/h


Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "average" (3 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "excellent" (5 out of 5). This evening's 20OGS operator is to be BREC Nighttime Center Supervisor Jordan Cobbs. The 20OGS will be in operation; however, the dropout will remain up as BREC Maintenance is investigating a problem with one of the hydraulic cylinders. The Hubble Space Telescope is predicted to make a magnitude 1.2 pass beginning at 8:31pm. The USA 186 military reconnaissance satellite is predicted to make a magnitude 1.9 pass beginning at 8:41pm. HRPO will close at 10pm.

Danko's Clear Dark Sky states that during HRPO's viewing time the transparency rating will be "above average" (4 out of 5) and the seeing rating will be "average" (3 out of 5). This evening's 20OGS operator is to be BREC Nighttime Center Supervisor Jordan Cobbs. The skies tonight will be some of the best that Baton Rouge can acheived at this time. Do not pass up the opportunity to view Saturn and Neptune.

The 20OGS will be in operation; however, the dropout will remain up as BREC Maintenance is investigating a problem with one of the hydraulic cylinders. The Iridium 7 satellite is predicted to flare to magnitude -6.9 at 8:50pm, with the Iridium 51 satellite flaring twenty-three seconds later at magnitude -6.8. The Hubble Space Telescope is predicted to make a magnitude 1.8 pass beginning at 9:02pm. HRPO will close at 10pm.

The skies tonight will be incomparable--light pollution notwithstanding. The Iridium flares (if they occur) will be very intense in brightness, each one surpassing the glow of a crescent Moon!

HRPO has neither a lecture nor viewing tonight. Sky viewing will resume from 7:30pm to 10pm tomorrow night, weather permitting.

This evening's 20OGS operator is LSU physics professor Greg Stacy. The 20OGS will be in operation; however, the dropout will not be lowered. The Resurs 01 rocket is predicted to make a magnitude 1.6 pass beginning at 8:56pm. HRPO will close at 9:30pm.
