2020 Spooky Sensation

Post by Christopher K. »

This one-time only event will be a merging of the International Astronomy Day celebration that usually takes place in the spring, and The Spooky Spectrum.

The Spooky Sensation will occur on Saturday 3 October from 2pm to 10pm. There will of course be a Halloween theme, and of course it will be family-friendly. Most IAD exhibitors and demonstrators will be there, and the annual HRPO raffle drawing has moved to this date.

At this time HRPO is operating under mandatory Phase 2 guidelines until at least 11 September. This means that personnel is not sure whether Phase 3 will be here when The Spooky Sensation arrives.

Due to this uncertainty, HRPO personnel are cautiously building the schedule for this event. Lisa Calhoun, author of Superflare, will be on site...

Also, Dr. Juana Moreno will be introducing HRPO patrons to a new concept called Baton Rouge Bytes...

The Spooky Sensation will run from 4pm to 10pm on Saturday 3 October.

This will be an extremely truncated version of both International Astronomy Day and the Spooky Spectrum. Most of the activities will be standalone and self-serve. The raffle will still take place at 9pm; ticket purchasers need not be present to win.

HRPO is closed 2 October as personnel prepare for this event.

Due to Phase 3 restrictions there is a maximum of fifty patrons at one time on site at HRPO. Because of this, patrons who have been on site longer than thirty minutes may have their ticket numbers called and be asked to leave. Therefore, please choose your arrival time carefully based on the time spans of all the activities.

Binocular checkout from HRPO front desk will be available at 7pm, but there are a limited number. We strongly encourage visitors to bring binoculars.
If you are coming only for a Rocket Range bid and launch, please show up only fifteen minutes before the launch time. If you are coming only to purchase a raffle ticket, please show up after 7pm.

There is a slight alteration in the description of the Wormhole item Alienology. All sales of the ten books begin at thirteen dollars; by Halloween the price will be lowered to ten dollars. More information...

The Zoo has canceled its appearance at the Spooky Sensation. HRPO personnel are now asking patrons to not arrive until 4:30pm.

The International Space Station is predicted to be seen as it passes overhead in the Baton Rouge sky beginning at 8:22pm. Personnel will instruct patrons where to look.
