William Forstchen will discuss the implications of a portion of the American Power Grid going down due to a from-space event (coronal mass ejection, solar storm, asteroid impact) or due to an electromagnetic pulse (regardless of origin). Forstchen is a history professor at Montreat College.

Ron Cowen will discuss the theory of relativity, radio telescopes, black holes and quasars. He will also mention the ongoing struggle to "marry" gravity to quantum theory. Cowen earned the American Astronomical Society Popular Writing Award.
