Intelligent Life in the Universe

Post by Christopher K. »

The last two value in the Drake Equation deal with intelligent life as opposed to a very basic, non-self-aware existence. "Late" tonight, actually sometime after midnight, the entertaining but esoteric radio show "Coast to Coast AM" will feature theoretical physicist Jim Al-Khalili giving his take on the latest advances in the search for extraterrestrial intelligent life. "Coast to Coast AM" airs on 1150AM (WJBO).

The habitable zone (sometimes called the "Goldilocks Zone") is that span of distance from its parent star in which an orbiting planet would be expected to have water in its liquid form. Although science fiction practitioners have speculated for quite some time about forms of life that would use other liquids or substances--our real-life experience to this point has shown us that water is nigh indispensable.

"The Habitable Zone" will be broadcast on NASA-TV tonight at 11pm, and...
Wednesday 8 April = 8:30am, 4:30pm
All times are Central Daylight.
