Burbank Soccer Complex

Post by Christopher K. » December 9th, 2015, 5:29 pm

Yesterday's Advocate listed PO# 2015-00005059, an announcement of the need for site improvements at the Burbank Soccer Complex...
http://www.brec.org/index.cfm/park/detail/25
The work listed includes "grading, site-work, concrete paths, modular restrooms, sports field lighting, electrical infrastructure, sports fields irrigation, sports turf, chain-link fence and utility infrastructure". BREC is receiving bids until 2pm on 12 January.

As we know, HRPO and BRAS utilize the area between the soccer fields and the dog park for those twilight or early evening celestial events that require a very low western or northern horizon. These events include but are not limited to Moon-planet conjunctions and simply searching for the Belt of Venus. The public joined us there to look for Comet PanSTARRS in March 2013.

Any parties interested in diminishing the light pollution problems near the HRPO domes should inquire whether full-cut-off lighting will be utilized for any additional or replacement lighting at the Burbank Soccer Complex.

HRPO personnel will be at the Burbank Soccer Complex on Friday 19 August from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Patrons are invited to join us as we view all five unaided-eye planets. For those two hours we will see (in order from west to east) Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn. HRPO equipment will be set up in the back of the Complex between the long lake and the dog park. Personal binoculars are strongly recommended.

HRPO personnel will be at the Burbank Soccer Complex on Friday 2 September from 5:45pm to 7:45pm. Patrons are invited to join us as we view Mercury, Venus and Jupiter forming a six-degree wide triangle low in the western sky. HRPO equipment will be set up in the back of the Complex between the long lake and the dog park. Personal binoculars are strongly recommended; do not aim any binocular at the Sun!
