Deep South Spring Scrimmage begins in 6 weeks

Post by bsimon615 » March 1st, 2018, 5:25 pm

The Deep South Spring Scrimmage, the little brother (or little sister) of the Deep South Star Gaze (oldest annually held star party in the southeastern United States) begins in just 6 weeks. Our dates this year are Thursday, April 12th to Sunday, April 15th. Like the fall Deep South Star Gaze, our venue is the Feliciana Retreat Center in East Feliciana Parish. The drive to this location is an hour or less for most living in the Baton Rouge area.

This site has motel type rooms in the Lodge, cottages with bunks and the ability to bring in an rv or to just simply rough it in a tent. While it begins on a Thursday and ends on a Sunday there is no obligation to stay for the full duration of the star party. Some may only come up and stay for one night and some may just pay the very nominal day use fee of $5.00 and stay the afternoon and part of the evening.

For more information just type Deep South Star Gaze into your search box on Google. You will be directed to a website with pictures and some basic information. From there via a hot link, you can go to the Deep South Yahoo Group for more information and forms.

Questions or requests - post them here.

Just a bit over 3 weeks now to the Deep South Spring Scrimmage which will be held from Thursday, April 12th to Sunday, April 15th at the Feliciana Retreat Center.

While it looks like we will have a record attendance this year, the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society is under-represented with just one member registered to date and another member who is likely to register and staying with someone already registered. The Spring Scrimmage offers 6.4 to 6.5 magnitude skies on good nights and is no more than an hour from any location in Baton Rouge. No need to come for all 3 days and nights. You can come up on Saturday and spend a few hours with us that evening. If doing this you are only subject to a $5.00 day use fee.

Check out the web site (just Google - Deep South Star Gaze). Hope to see a few more of you Red Stickians there!
