Quantum Entanglement

Post by Christopher K. »

Definitely one of the weirdest observable phenomena of our Universe is the state of two subatomic particles--if "entangled"--having a very real but not completely understood link between each other, no matter how far apart.

Physicists in Austria announced in August that they sent laser light at a cat-shaped opening in cardboard, resulting (as one would expect) in a glowing cat shape. The catch? The light didn't actually pass through the hole! This story appears as one of the top 100 science stories of 2014 in the January/February 2015 Discover from Kalmbach Publishing. Shannon Palus wrote the brief article on page twenty-two.

Now we're seeing observable confirmation of this astounding and slightly creepy behavior. What applications are there for GPS? What might this mean for future security and privacy?
