KIC 9832227

Post by Christopher K. »

A twelfth-magnitude binary in Cyngus, KIC 9832227 made some news three years ago with Lawrence Molnar and his colleagues released their argument that the pair were destined to merge.

On Friday 13 March at HRPO, Dr. Manos Chatzopoulos of LSU's Department of Physics and Astronomy will give the talk "Star Mergers". The talk starts at 7:30pm and has never been presented at HRPO. The talk is for a general adult audience.

Dr. Chatzopoulos' presentation was the first to be canceled due to concerns regarding the virus spread. At long last, he will present (remotely) on Friday 12 February at 5:30pm this first-time presentation regarding the mechanisms that create some of the most astounding events in the Universe.
