A little over an hour from now (7pm), LSU graduate student Tyler Ellis will present an update on Tabby's Star at the monthly meeting of the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society. The meeting is open to the public; one need not be a member.

Of course, one of the major speculations was that there is some sort of articificial construction around the star. The SETI Institute is checking on that...

I believe it is safe to say that Tabby's Star has entered popular culture in that steady but sure manner that individual concepts and objects from the study of astrophysics do (like black holes). On Saturday 7 December from 1pm to 2pm, Dr. Tabby Boyajian herself will be at Goodwood Library Teen Services to present "Planet Hunters and the Most Mysterious Star in the Galaxy". The talk is for eleven- to seventeen-year-olds and has no admission fee.
