This star can be found easily by following the curvature of the Big Dipper's handle. Throughout the rest of the month this magnitude -0.1 K-class star shines high in the west (at least halfway up the sky dome at 10pm). Kaler says that Arcturus, along with Vega and Capella, divide the northern sky into "very rough thirds".

Arcturus is getting lower every night so see it while you can. Below are the times before which Arcturus remains above fifteen degrees in full darkness...
14 September, 9:16pm
18 September, 9:01pm
22 September, 8:45pm
26 September, 8:29pm

Go out around 8:15pm and take a look at Arcturus, shining low in the west. Can you still see it as its twenty-four degrees up in the west, or are trees and buildings blocking the view?

Arcturus is back! This K-class beauty has marked the beginning of spring for centuries. Try spotting it this Tuesday night in the east as soon as possible after its rise time of 8:32pm.
