252/P (LINEAR)

Greg Crinklaw states that LINEAR is moving so close to the Earth that a typical finder chart would be worthless! Crinklaw estimates a magnitude of anywhere from 8.5 to 9.1 during this object's close approach later tonight. By contrast Sky & Telescope estimates sixth magnitude either tomorrow night or Wednesday night as it resides in Scorpius, and Seiichi Yoshida gives his estimate this week as 7.1 to 7.4. At least by 26 March LINEAR will be high before morning twilight at ~4:45am CDT as seen from Baton Rouge's latitude. Surprisingly, it doesn't look like my copy of Starry Night Pro Plus has automatically downloaded the data for 252/P onto the simulation.

252/P LINEAR was discovered in 2000 and has a period of 5.34 years.
