Apollo 15

Post by Christopher K. »

The Apollo 15 mission lasted from 26 July to 7 August 1971. The all-Air Force crew members were David Scott, Jim Irwin and Al Worden. The Apennine Mountains area adjacent to Hadley Rille was the landing site.

We celebrate the forty-fifth anniversary of Apollo 15 next month! BREC Center Supervisor Tom Northop will give a presentation on Friday 22 July, 7:30pm at the Highland Road Park Observatory. There is no admission fee and the talk is aimed at a general adult audience.

Al Worden passed away in his sleep Thursday. He was part of the group of nineteen candidates selected by NASA to be astronauts in April 1966. Aside from being one the bravest human beings who ever lived (inspiring generation of skygazers and engineers and astronauts) he enjoyed water skiing, bowling and golf.

There aren't too many Apollo moonwalkers left.
