The publication has sixty mysteries divided into six sections and pondered. The first section was Earth
, and the first mystery of that section was the origin of all the water on Earth. The "guest responder", Linda Elkins-Tanton of Arizona State University summarized the current prevailing theory, which was that rocky planets like Venus and Earth and Mars probably outgasses the majority of the water that was in their early atmospheres and oceans, with only a small percentage added by cometary impacts.
