Given the evidence of past water on Mars, what do you think about the question of life there?

The question can be highly emotional, and I believe this type of situation really benefits from many different individuals and groups using the scientific method to find the answer. Many of us want to believe there's something on Mars. (I don't know if anyone still thinks an organism complex enough to be referred to as "someone" is on Mars.)

In March, scientists identified sulfur, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and carbon in the powder from a sedimentary rock Curiosity drilled into in February. So there may have been microbes at one time. Now if we could just find a fossil....

The MAVEN mission is launching on 18 November, if NASA's planned schedule holds. MAVEN's purpose is to find out where all the Martian water went, and what happened to the previously thick atmosphere. I don't know if MAVEN's findings will result in more visitors choosing more often the first response on the list for this poll.

MAVEN will go into orbit around Mars in September 2014.

This is easily one of the more evocative questions Fred has placed in this section. I wonder if the data uncovering these past few seasons by Curiosity is going to change the results of this poll in the future.
